'One Year On' at New Designers 2011!!!

It is very exciting that I am amoung 50 other designers who have set up their businesses in the last year and have been selected to show at One Year On in July! I went to the prepare day on Tuesday which was a brilliant opportunity to meet all the other exhibitors as well as Jethro Macey who is curating the show this year. It is also fast approaching and so I busy producing lots of new work to showcase. Here are some of my newly designed cushion fabrics, woven on the Jacquard in the Design Centre at University College Falmouth using my naturally dyed silks.

Tresithick Upholstery Course

As part of a new direction for my weaving I decided to learn some traditional upholstery techniques so that I can apply my work to furniture. I spent a week with Richard and Sonja Hooper who run Tresithick Upholstery Training at Granpound near Truro. I had such a brilliant week where I learnt how to strip down the old fabric and stuffing from a chair so that I could start from the bare frame to rebuild and upholster the chair using traditional methods. I really suprised me how many layers are used and how time consuming it is to build up a firm and even seat. Here are some of the pictures of me at work:
